It’s weird. And it’s quite possible you haven’t met anyone around you yet with a similar experience. But God saw you even at your young age and called you to carry His heart and presence to a new nation to impact people of a different culture and background. And that right there is one of the greatest privileges given to anyone in the kingdom.

City streets of León, Nicaragua

Your senses may be overwhelmed. All the new sights, smells, different food, foreign language- sometimes it’s incredible and sometimes it seems too much. And it’s okay to feel either way, it’s important to give yourself grace so you can relax and remember the mission He appointed you for at your young age.

“Home” might seem like a foreign concept to you since you may be torn between the place you came from and where you are at currently. Sometimes it might seem because of all the constant traveling back and forth you don’t really get the opportunity to invest deep in friendships. But don’t let that keep you from openly loving the people that are currently around you, they are in your life in this moment for a reason.

Don’t be afraid to open your heart up to the girls living in the little hut next door, chances are they could become some of the closest and deepest friends you ever have.

It’s totally okay to be a kid, embrace your childlikeness in the middle of the all the weirdness that comes with being a missionary kid. Being a missionary kid doesn’t mean you have to instantly grow up. you just have the opportunity to see the world in a different lens than most kids your age, and because of that you grow a deeper gift of maturity at a younger age than most. And that’s okay, but don’t discredit your age because of it.

You have full permission to be a kid and be childlike, you are actually releasing something fresh to those around you about what it looks like to be friends with Jesus.

In the moments where you feel alone, chase after Him. You didn’t travel all the way to a foreign country on your own. He called you there, but He also went there with you. He is the one that will sustain you both in the times where life is amazing and when life seems chaotic. Seek Him everyday with everything, you have one of the most amazing opportunities to not only serve but to grow a deep connection with the Lord.

He is creating a wild and crazy history with you that will propel you into your destiny.

Finally, you may be young but you are most definitely not weak. You are so mighty and so much more powerful that you think. Continue to be your bold self, and as you do life with Jesus by your side, you will get to see heaven invade a beautiful nation. And that is one of the greatest privileges of being a missionary kid and a lover of Jesus.
